NZ Registered Osteopath | ACC Treatment Provider
Manuel Mauch
M.Ost, B.AppSci, BSExSC, Dip BRS
Born in Germany and based in New Zealand for over 20 years, Manuel’s journey into healthcare began with a drive to help others optimise their movement and well-being. He initially worked as a personal trainer, earning a Diploma and Bachelor’s Degree in Sports Science from the Eastern Institute of Technology in Hawke’s Bay. After experiencing a significant lower back injury while training, Manuel turned to osteopathy for rehabilitation. The relief and restored function he gained inspired him to pivot his career and pursue the field full-time.
Manuel went on to complete a Bachelor of Applied Science (Human Biology) and a Master of Osteopathy at Unitec in Auckland, receiving a postgraduate scholarship and conducting thesis research on lower back pain and spondylolisthesis. Alongside his clinical practice, he works as an Osteopathic Clinical Tutor at the Ara Institute of Canterbury, helping support and guide student osteopaths.
Areas of Clinical Focus
Manuel enjoys working with a wide range of presentations, with a particular clinical interest in:
- Lower back pain, disc management, and sciatica
- Neck strain, jaw pain (TMJ dysfunction), and tension headaches
- Shoulder mobility restrictions and knee pain
- Sporting injuries and athletic recovery
- Tendon issues e.g. tendinopathy and tendonitis
- Post-surgical musculoskeletal issues
Treatment Approach & Active Rehabilitation
His clinical approach combines direct structural techniques to improve joint and muscle mobility with gentler modalities such as visceral manipulation and cranial osteopathy. To support long-term recovery, he places a strong emphasis on active rehabilitation and self-management strategies, incorporating targeted exercise prescription, movement optimisation, and practical advice on sleep and stress management.
Outside the clinic and the teaching lab, Manuel stays active through bouldering, calisthenics, weightlifting, cycling, and hiking, while taking every opportunity to spend quality time outdoors with family and friends.
